Additional Details Released In Athens Shooting
< < Back toAthens police say that an Athens man who was taken to the hospital earlier this week with a gunshot wound to the head has told investigators he was shot after a physical altercation with unknown individuals.
However, police are still unclear as to the exact location where the incident took place.
On Tuesday, the Athens Police Department received notification from O’Bleness Memorial Hospital staff regarding a patient the hospital was treating for a gunshot wound. The patient, Jonathan W. Zesiger, 29, had been transported to the hospital by a relative, according to a news release from Athens police.
When officers arrived, Zesiger was being prepared for transfer to Grant Medical Center for further treatment.
A Grant spokeswoman said Zesiger was discharged from the hospital Thursday.
Zesiger was interviewed by police Thursday and he told them that he became involved in a physical altercation with unknown individuals and was shot, according to the news release. Zesiger stated that the individuals took some personal property and then fled the scene.
