Pinson Named MAC East Defensive Player of the Week
< < Back toOhio University middle blocker Alexis Pinson was named Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season on Monday.
Pinson led No. 18 Ohio to a 1-1 record during the team’s road trip through Kent, Ohio, and Ypsilanti, Mich. Defensively, she led the Bobcats with 1.38 blocks/set and 1.12 digs/set.
The graduate student also had a large impact offensively. She put together a combined .444 hitting percentage while averaging 3.8 points/set and 3.0 kills/set.
In Ohio’s 3-1 loss to Kent State on Thursday, Pinson led the ‘Cats with six blocks, 13 kills, four digs, and a service ace.
In Saturday’s 3-1 win over Eastern Michigan, the Phoenix, Ariz., native hit a team-high .471 while adding five total blocks, five digs, and 11 kills.
After the strong weekend performance, Pinson now ranks second in the MAC in blocks/set (1.42) and is 10th nationally in the category. She is also fourth in the league in service aces/set (0.40) and fifth in hitting percentage (.345) in conference play.
Ohio returns to the court this weekend when the ‘Cats face Toledo Friday at 7 p.m. and take on Ball State Saturday at 7 p.m. Both matchups will take place inside the Convocation Center.
