Bobcats Edge Toledo 3-1

Ohio Volleyball dropped the first set but won the rest Friday, taking down Toledo at home 23-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-21.

Toledo led for the majority of a close first set. The Rockets broke a 10-10 tie with a 3-0 run and held onto a close-but-comfortable advantage for the rest of the frame.

Outside hitter Lauren Rafdal had eight kills in the first set to pace the Rocket offense.

Ohio held Rafdal in check for the rest of the match.

Rafdal, a senior, came into Fridays match ranked second in the Mid-American Conference in kills.  After giving the ‘Cats trouble early Firday night, she had only eight kills in the final three sets.

The Bobcats dominated the second and third sets.

Ohio won 11 of the last 14 points in the second to tie the match before heading into the locker room.

After the break, the two teams played a close third game, but the ‘Cats pulled away, winning the final six points of the set. Senior outside hitter Liis Kullerkann had three kills during the run.

In the middle sets Ohio outkilled Toledo 33-15.

The Bobcats walked away with the win after killing 17 balls in the final frame.

Junior outside hitter Kelly Lamberti had a match-high 18 kills. Kullerkann added 14, and Karin Bull notched 13 from the middle blocker position.

Sophomore setter Abby Gilleland hit the half-century mark with 50 assists and 12 digs.

Six Bobcats scored at least 7.5 points.

Ohio hosts Ball State Saturday. The Cardinals (18-4, 6-1) have won 15 of their last 16 matches.

Saturday’s matchup pits the top team in the MAC East against the best team in the MAC West.
