The Bobcats earned a third place seeding in the Mid-American Conference tournament this Saturday as they ran away with a 3-2 double overtime win against a Kent State team previously undefeated in the MAC.

The Flashes made it onto the scoreboard first as Sabrina Binder managed to get the ball past Ohio goalkeeper Brittany Walker in the eighth minute. An assist by Julia Hoffman off of a penalty corner made Binder’s third goal of this season possible.

Answering Binder’s goal seven minutes later was Ohio’s Franziska Schmiedel who tied the game at one with an unassisted shot that passed Andrea Rinehart in goal for the Flashes.

Kent’s Madison Thompson ended the scoring of the first half in the 29th minute as she found the back of the net, establishing a lead for the Flashes that would last until the last few seconds of regulation play.

Just when it looked like another win for Kent State, Lauryl Desch scored her second goal of the season that tied of the game with zero seconds left on the clock. She managed to capitalize off of a rebound on a corner attempt initiated by Jessica Jue.

The goal that put the ‘Cats on top was scored by Jue in the 87th minute off of a corner from fellow senior Luli Gomez Teruel. This secured the victory in double overtime for the Bobcats and was Jue’s sixth goal of the season.

Walker had a total of seven saves in her 87-minute appearance in goal compared to Rinehart’s three. The ‘Cats also bested the Flashes as they led with 12 penalty corners, scoring on two of them.

On Friday, Nov. 8, the Bobcats will travel to Oxford, Ohio, for a match against Miami (Ohio) in the first round of the MAC tournament at 2 p.m.
