The Rio Grande RedStorm are looking to add another win to the one earned in their season opener this Saturday against the Miami-Middletown Thunderhawks. This game will be a part of Saunders Insurance Tipoff Classic, hosted Rio Grande.

The women’s basketball team is hoping to carry the offensive energy from its previous game into this upcoming game. The RedStorm topped their 107-point high in 2011 with a total of 113 points against Wilberforce on Tuesday.

The ladies are coming into this game shooting an impressive 54 perecent from the field and 92 percent from the free throw line. The team also rounded up 47 rebounds against Wilberforce. The RedStorm are also looking for sophomore forward Sarah Bonar and junior guard Brianna Thomas to drop exciting numbers once again. On Tuesday, Bonar had not only a team high but career high as well with 32 points on 13 shots, while capturing eight rebounds. Thomas contributed with seven assists and 24 points.

The Thunderhawks have not been as successful in the opening of their season, losing their first game 106-68 to St. Catherine College. The ones to watch are their freshman guards Summer Cupp and Tierra Tidwell, who dropped eight and 17 points, respectively, in their opening game.

Rio Grande is out to avenge their nail-biting 93-90 loss against Miami-Middletown in last season’s Bevo Francis Invitational. This loss knocked the RedStorm out of the tournament title game for the first time.

Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. on Rio Grande’s home court at Newt Oliver Arena.
