Undefeated Marietta Prepares For Denison
< < Back toThe undefeated Pioneers will head to Denison University Saturday for a matchup with the 0-1 Big Red. It’s the second of a two game road stretch for the Pioneers. If they can outlast Denison, they will be coming home 4-0.
Denison has only played one game thus far. They lost, 84-72, to Washington & Jefferson. The Big Red had a couple of different players rise up in that game.
The first was Brad Woolard, a 6-foot-3 junior from Newark, Ohio. He dropped 23 points and shot nearly 54 percent from the floor. The other potential problem Marietta could face is David Meurer, who scored 18 points and shot over 54 percent.
Marietta’s undefeated start is due in part to the range of talent it has. The Pioneers have five or six guys that could light up the scoreboard on any given night.
In the last game against Waynesburg, it was A.J. Davis and RaNeal Ewing that put it on. In previous games it had been guys like Tyler Hammond, Eddy Grennert and Brennan McKean. Predicting who will lead the Pioneers on any given night is like picking the Kentucky Derby.
Look for Davis to put together another huge game. He will be the tallest player on the floor for either team. He has also been one of the more consistent players for Marietta.
The Pioneers are feeling the early season pressure of being undefeated. Denison is angry over their first loss, so look for them to be playing with some fire. This game will probably be another close one for Marietta. Tipoff is at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
