Some Athens area schools were delayed and then closed when a skiff of snow and freezing temperatures turned roads icy Monday morning.

Athens City, Nelsonville York and Trimble Schools called for delays shortly before 6 a.m. but within an hour deteriorating road conditions and a forecast for more snow later in the day caused those schools to change their status to "closed."

Roadways slowed motorists during the morning commute.

The National Weather Service was calling for a 30 percent chance of snow showers in the region through Tuesday morning.

The forecast predicts warming temperatures toward the end of the week with highs Friday in the 50s.
