Second Half Explosion Boosts Rio Grande Over Cougars
< < Back toThe ladies from Rio Grande pulled off yet another impressive win Tuesday night, as they defeated the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars 91-72.
With an extremely close first half, going into intermission with only a one point lead of 39-38, the RedStorm came back out to the court for the second half of play with a new mindset.
They ran the court to score a total of 52 points, while Mount Vernon squeezed out a mere 34 points in comparison.
Brianna Thomas once again led the RedStorm to victory, scoring a team-high 18 points for the night. Thomas also led the team in steals and assists, with five and eight, respectively.
Sarah Bonar also hit double digits in the game, with 10 points to add to the victory. Rio Grande had an five players to score in double digits by the end of the night.
The Cougars, on the other hand, had only three players score in double digits, and only had nine players to contribute to their loss. The RedStorm played a deep bench – with every player that touched the court scoring at least two points.
The 10-2 RedStorm will continue nonconference play in its next game, as it travels to Alderson-Broaddus College. The game will be played on Dec. 21, and tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
