Rio Grande's women's basketball team was once again victorious as it handed the Alderson-Broaddus Battlers their ninth straight loss of the season Saturday afternoon. The 84-77 win boosted the RedStorm to an 11-2 record and allowed them to add to their perfect road record, which is now 4-0.

The lead was exchanged between the two teams multiple times throughout the game. With 16:24 left in the first half, the Battlers took the lead by seven points. However, the RedStorm took over and led on the scoreboard going into halftime, with Alderson-Broaddus trailing 40-31.

The RedStorm shot 52.6 percent from the field, 79.2 percent from the line, and a mere 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. Rio Grande also had six players score 10 or more points in the matchup.

Sarah Bonar led the team in points in assists, with 21 and two, respectively. Bonar was flanked by Brooke Marcum, who had a team high nine rebounds, and Brianna Thomas, who had a team high four steals.

The Battlers and the RedStorm both had 12 offensive rebounds, but the RedStorm powered over Alderson-Broaddus when it came to defensive rebounds (20-19) and steals (14-8). Where the Battlers lacked in rebounds and steals, however, they made up in bench points, with 29 compared to Rio's 19.

The RedStorm will now take a break for the holidays, but return to play on Dec. 30 as they host non-conference University of Cincinnati-Clermont in Newt Oliver Arena. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
