Marietta Rides 5-Game Winning Streak To Muskingum
< < Back toThe Marietta Pioneers are a hot basketball team right now. They have won five straight games, and are coming off a revenge win against Ohio Northern. The Pioneers are currently 15-4, and looking to continue the roll Wednesday at Muskingum.
The Muskingum Fighting Muskies are having a disappointing year. They are 7-12, and are currently on a seven game losing streak. Muskingum has the second worst record in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Despite all this, the Fighting Muskies gave the Pioneers a little excitement the first meeting.
The Pioneers edged Muskingum 79-70 in their first meeting in Marietta. The Pioneers dominated in every category in that game except for points in the paint where Muskingum compiled 42 points. If Marietta wants to make a statement against one of the worst teams in the conference the Pioneers will have to defend the paint a little better.
Dave Brown is the offensive threat to watch for the Muskingum Fighting Muskies. Brown is a shooting guard averaging 16.7 points per game. In his first shot at the Pioneers, he dropped 16. The other player to watch is Logan Kimble. Kimble is averaging 14.2 points per game, and shooting an impressive 49% from the floor.
This could be a trap game for the Pioneers. Marietta is a conference title contender this year, currently sitting at No. 2, and Muskingum is ranked second to last in the conference, but a frustrated Muskie team would love to end their run of misery against an upper tier OAC team.
Tipoff is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Muskingum.
