The Ohio Bobcats baseball team will have the chance to prove a lot of people wrong this spring. Ohio was predicted to finish last in the 2014 Mid-American Conference Baseball Preseason Poll announced Wednesday.

2013 Regular Season Champion Kent State was picked by the league’s 12 Head Coaches to repeat as MAC East Division and MAC Tournament champions. The coaches predicted Ball State, last season’s MAC Tournament runner-up, to win the West Division.

The Golden Flashes lead the East Division with 71 points, including 11 first place votes. They are followed by Bowling Green and Buffalo, who were picked to finish second and third respectively. Miami, Akron and Ohio round out the bottom half of the division.

Ball State headlines the West Division with 57 points and four first place votes. Central Michigan was predicted to finish second, and received just one less point than Ball State. Toledo was tabbed to place third. Northern Illinois, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan fill out the remaining spots in the West Division.

The MAC baseball season begins on Friday, Feb. 14, with conference play kicking off on Friday, March 21. The season will end at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio with the MAC Baseball Tournament beginning May 21. Ohio opens up their season Friday in Cullowhee, N.C. where they will take on Western Carolina.
