Former Ohio softball slugger Lauren Gellerman is heading to Italy.

The two-time Second-Team NFCA All-Region selection will compete professionally for Italy’s Forli Softball club this spring.

A unique Bobcat connection led to Gellerman’s opportunity to play overseas. Former Ohio assistant coach Sharonda McDonald (2009-2012) competed in Forli in 2009. Forli was in need of a catcher and was aware that Gellerman, who graduated from Ohio in December, was itching to return to the diamond.

Gellerman hit a .347 clip with a slugging percentage of .721 during her four-year collegiate career with Ohio. During her time as a Bobcat, Gllerman collected 167 hits, including 30 doubles, three triples and 48 home runs.  She also compiled 137 RBIs, which shattered Ohio’s career records.

In her final season in an Ohio uniform, Gellerman hit a career-best .405, slugged at a rate of .948, a mark that ranked fourth in the NCAA. She broke a conference record with 26 home runs, which is a mark that ranked third in the NCAA.

The Forli Softball Club’s first game is set for April 5 in Parma-Forli.
