State Seeks To Prevent Falls For Older Ohioans
< < Back toOfficials are drawing attention to the potential hazards of falling for older Ohioans as a state effort marks its anniversary.
The STEADY U Ohio is a falls prevention initiative led by Gov. John Kasich and the Ohio Department of Aging.
According to the state agency, falls are the number one cause of injuries leading to emergency room visits, hospital stays and deaths in Ohioans ages 65 and over.
To raise awareness of the issue, the state is providing tool kits with basic information about falls, conversation starters and balance assessment tests.
The information is aimed at helping health care providers reduce their patients' chances of falling and suffering serious injuries.
