New ARTS/West Event To Celebrate Fiber Arts
< < Back toARTS/West and the Athens County Knitters will present the first annual Athens Area Fiber Faire on Oct. 4-5.
The Athens area has become more abundant with fiber artists selling both finished work and raw materials. The new event will showcase what the area has to offer.
The event—held at ARTS/West—will feature: classes in spinning, felting and knitting; vendors selling supplies that relate to fiber arts and other vendors selling their finished work; a knitting and crochet circle; live fiber animals to see up-close; and demonstrations of both contemporary and historic techniques.
There will also be fashion shows each day. Saturday’s fashion show will include pieces by the Athens County Knitters.
Sunday’s show will feature wearable fiber art. Participants will also help The Gathering Place attempt to make the world’s largest yarn pompom.
The event will also feature raffles and attendees can aid in making a community quilt.
The Faire will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
