Game Preview: Gallia Academy Hoping To Find Some Defense Against Marietta

Points have not been in short supply for either Gallia Academy or Marietta of late. The Gallia Academy Blue Devils are coming off a 55-point victory over Fairland, while Marietta dropped 34 points in a battle with undefeated Williamstown. Both teams are averaging just under 30 points per-game.

Marietta’s offense had stalled in its matchup against Warren the week prior, but it definitely clicked against a Williamstown team that had only allowed 28 points all season. Running backs Aaron Elliot and Garrett Davis were the driving forces behind the offense’s resurgence last week. The game finished as a loss for the Tigers, but the offense has return to form.

Standing on the other sideline will be a Blue Devils lineup that has an abundance of offensive weapons. Junior receiver Wes Jarrell returned from injury last week and ripped off a 59-yard punt return for a touchdown. With Jarrell back in the field, the Blue Devils have their deep threat back.

Gallia Academy running back Eli Miller and quarterback Kole Carter contributed five more touchdowns, guiding the Blue Devil offense to 408 yards on only 49 plays—which adds averages out to about eight yards per play. This comes after a 431-yard performance in a 30-0 win over Chesapeake in Week 2.

Even though Gallia Academy posted a shutout two weeks ago, defense shouldn’t be on the radar. Both ground games are going to have a field day and offensive firepower will not be scarce. If the Tigers can duplicate the offensive pace that they held with the Jackets, Gallia Academy could be in for a long night.

The two will square off at Don Drumm Stadium on in Marietta on Friday with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
