The No. 4 Ohio Bobcats (18-2-2) completed their 2-game weekend sweep with a 5-0 win over Rutgers.

Coming off an 8-1 beatdown over Rutgers on Friday, the Bobcats played like they had more to prove going into Saturday’s rematch.

Defender Jake Faiella scored the game’s first goal 11:27 into the game, which was followed by two goals from forward Logan Pfeffer later in the first period to put the score at 3-0.

Forwards Nathan De La Torre and Liam Geither set the game score at 5-0, scoring two goals within nearly 10-minute increments during the second period.

“Tempers are flaring out there, and especially when the score’s getting run up and stuff, tempers are gonna go,” said forward Matthew Hartman, who was involved in a late-game scuffle. “But in a situation like that, you’re just trying to protect yourself and make sure you’re not out for the next game.”

Ohio head coach Sean Hogan thought the ‘Cats played even better than yesterday. Stating the first period was one of their best periods of the year.

Ryan Heltion started for Ohio and had 19 saves. He has six wins on the year.

Ohio has now won 15 straight home games, but looks to test its its 3-2 road record, playing its next four games away from Bird Arena.

The first game is against No. 21 Davenport at Patterson Ice Arena next Friday. The puck drops at 8:30 p.m.
