Rumor Has It: Zanesville Theater Troupe Presents Neil Simon Classic

Neil Simon’s comedies have always been popular with Zanesville theater audiences. Now, Simon’s work returns to the Zanesville Community Theatre on Friday, Feb. 6 with the opening of Rumors.

Performances will run over two weekends: Feb. 6-7 and Feb. 13-14, with all shows at 8 p.m. There will also be Sunday matinees on Feb. 8 and 15 at 2:30 p.m.

The comedy is typical Simon and does contain some adult situations and language.

Directed by Jillian B. Von Gunten and produced by Jan Kiikka, Rumors is the story of four couples gathering for a 10th anniversary celebration of one couple. Unfortunately, one half of the celebrating couple has been shot and his wife has disappeared.

This leaves the early arrivals to figure out a plausible explanation of what happened to the remaining two couples. To further complicate matters, the wounded host is well-known as the Deputy Mayor of New York, so any publicity is to be avoided – and the police are on the way as well.

As the communications and mis-communications mount, the evening spins off into classical farcical hilarity.

The cast for ZCT’s production is filled with veterans of many previous productions, including Greg Adams as Ken Gorman; Eileen Adams as Chris Gorman; Rob Cook as Lenny Ganz; Cindy Houpt as Clare Ganz; Jared Gantzer as Ernie Cusack; Sarah Gantzer as Cookie Cusack; Matt Swingle as Glenn Cooper; Tahnee Kay as Cassie Cooper; Cory Roush as Officer Welch; and Mollie Gookins Earich as Officer Pudney.
