Dozens Arrested During Millfest

More than two dozen people were arrested over the weekend during the kickoff to the spring fest season.

Hundreds lined the Mill Street despite the rainy weather Saturday for Millfest.

According to a news release from the City of Athens, most of the parties wrapped up by 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, with law enforcement stepping in to shut down 18 house parties for infractions under the nuisance party ordinance.

The Ohio Investigative Unit arrested 31 individuals on 55 charges, with the Athens Police Department arresting eight people and the Ohio University Police Department arresting 13 others. Charges were mostly alcohol related, but there was one assault on a police horse and two obstruction charges. Final arrest numbers are not yet available.

Athens County Emergency Medical received four calls related to Millfest, with two resulting in transport to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital.
The Athens Fire Department did not respond to any calls in the area.
