Lunch and drinking water is going to be coming from a different source at Morrison-Gordon Elementary while crews fix a water main break in the area.

Athens City School District Associate Superintendent Tom Gibbs announced the water shut off to the school in a message to parents and community members at about 11:40 a.m. on Thursday.

Maintenance crews are currently bringing fresh water to the school for lunch preparation and drinking water, Gibbs said.

“While we believe that this will cause some disturbance to the school day and will cause some inconvenience, we’re certain we can provide a safe environment for the students,” Gibbs said.

Water supply is expected to be restored to the school within the next “several hours,” Gibbs said, adding that the district does not intend to alter the school day.
