The Dairy Barn Arts Center has announced the opening of In and Around the Barn, featuring a range of participatory artworks and performances for old and young, on Friday, March 27 from 5-7 p.m.

Twenty-three artists from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Los Angeles will join two Ohio University art classes to present installations, performances, videos and projected images throughout the inside and outside of the Barn, not just in the gallery.

“I am interested in challenging artists to find new ways of exhibiting their work in a site that is specific and engages viewers to reconsider different modes of exhibition. It’s my hope that both the artists and visitors to the Barn will have an opportunity to explore the Barn in new different and invigorating ways,” said Courtney Kessel, exhibition coordinator.

In and Around the Barn artists include Gary Blowers, Chloe Clevenger, “Collective Springboard” (Danny Crump, Sarah Dahlinger, Micah Snyder, and Stephanie Wadman), Josh Dannin, Kelsey Duncan, Alyson Annette Eshelman, Lori Esposito’s Painting and Drawing class, Gregory Hatch, Melissa Haviland, Seana Higgins, Colleen Keough, Ellen Kleckner, Becky Linhardt, Jason Lockyer, Daniel Manion, David Reiser, Tiffany Roenigk, John Schriner, Skip Sensbach, Marcia Shubert, Broooks Wenzel and Wenzel’s Function class.

The exhibition runs from March 28–April 4 in the gallery, but will continue in all the other areas of the Dairy Barn through April 18. A second installment featuring local artists will be on display in the gallery during the week of April 13-18.

The exhibition featuring local artists will be free to the public with a suggested donation of $5. On Thursday, April 2, the Dairy Barn will be free from 5-8 p.m., sponsored by the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce.
