The Plains Man Arrested On Drug Charges On South Green
< < Back toA man from The Plains was arrested after he was allegedly caught speeding and a canine unit detected suspected drugs in the vehicle.
Christian A. Thomas, 33, of 1st Street, was charged with having weapons while under disability, along with charges of improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, speeding and violating a protection order on Monday near River’s Edge Apartments.
According to a police report by the Ohio University Police Department, Thomas was caught on radar traveling 39 in a 25 mph zone on South Green Drive. A traffic stop was initiated and “a slight odor” of marijuana was detected.
A canine unit from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office was requested and indicated positively on the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led to a “small amount” of narcotics being found, according to the report by the sheriff’s office. A handgun was also allegedly found hidden in the vehicle, along with “a large amount of money,” the sheriff’s office report stated.
Charges were handled through OUPD, and Thomas was transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
