Ohio Gov. John Kasich has sworn in a new adjutant general of the Ohio National Guard.
Maj. Gen. Mark E. Bartman replaces Maj. Gen. Deborah Ashenhurst, the state’s first female adjutant general. She stepped down to assume duties at the National Guard Bureau in Washington earlier this year.
Bartman has served as interim adjutant general. He now will oversee the state’s military readiness and command more than 18,000 personnel in the Ohio Army National Guard, Ohio Air National Guard, Ohio Military Reserve and Ohio Naval Militia.
Bartman graduated from Ohio State University in 1982. He entered military service in September 1982 through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps.
He’s served in various operations and command positions in the U.S. Air Force and the Ohio Air National Guard.
