Gov. John Kasich is pledging another $2 million to support shared medical research among children’s hospitals in Ohio.
The additional money comes after the governor committed $2 million in 2011 to spur collaborative research among the hospitals on children’s health issues.
Kasich made the announcement Thursday at a Statehouse event.
The funds will be divided between two research projects, with $1 million being used to study asthma treatment options for children and another $1 million focused on pediatric pneumonia diagnoses.
The research will be funded with federal dollars that Ohio was awarded for enrolling more eligible children in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
The governor’s office says the hospitals will partner with Ohio Medicaid to capture the Medicaid costs for both research efforts and document health outcomes.
