Kent Rolls Bobcats, Sweeps Weekend Series

The Ohio softball team went to Kent State this weekend and played a two-game series against the Golden Flash. The first game was on Saturday and the second was on Sunday.

The Bobcats lost both games, losing in the first game 9-1 and — despite putting up a late rally — ultimately losing 9-6 on Sunday.

In game one, the Bobcats (11-2, 4-4 in Mid-American Conference) started off slowly, giving up three runs in the first off of two home runs by Kent. And in the second, the Golden Flashes hit another home run to make it 4-0.

Kent tacked on another run in the third making it 5-0.

The Bobcats started to threaten in the fourth, but it was too late by then and they just couldn’t get anyone home.

Seemingly sensing Ohio trying to gain some momentum, the Golden Flashes picked it up and added another three runs to essentially seal the game and make it 8-0. The Bobcats got their only run in the fifth inning to make it 8-1, but Kent would get another run later on.

Sunday produced a similar result, as the Bobcats rallied but let the Golden Flashes back into it late on for a 9-6 victory.

In the first inning, Kent started quckly, getting two runs in the second inning and scoring another in the third. By the fourth inning, the score was 4-0 and the game seemed eerily similar to the one the day before.

But that storyline changed in the fifth.

Madison Claytor started it off, as her two-run homer pumped some intensity into Ohio’s offense and saw the Bobcats put up four more runs in the inning and take a 6-4 lead.

A five-run sixth inning by the Golden Flashes saw them take the lead back, however, and a resolute Kent defense kept the Bobcats off the board for the rest of the game.

Ohio will take a break from conference play when it invites the Dayton Flyers to Ohio Softball Field for a doubleheader Tuesday.
