The Athens Messenger is bringing the nationally acclaimed Taste of Home Cooking School to Athens County.

The Taste of Home Cooking School is America’s leading cooking school program, inspiring more than 135,000 passionate home chefs at 200-plus events nationwide.

Mark Porter Autoplex and the 30 Mile Meal program are presenting sponsors of the main event which will be held Thursday, June 18, at Stuart’s Opera House on the Nelsonville Public Square and will also feature a vendor village around the square.

The Cooking School show begins at 7 p.m. but the Vendor Village on the Historic Public Square will be open earlier in the day so guests can have the opportunity to shop and sample local products.

The perfect recipe for creating new memories with loved ones includes good friends, good conversation and, of course, great food.

Taste of Home’s Culinary Specialist Dana Elliott will share her home cooking tips and tricks while demonstrating step-by-step recipes for the season’s best dishes. Attendees experience exciting recipe demonstrations using ingredients that are easily found at Kroger, the grocery sponsor for this culinary experience.

Recipes are submitted by home cooks from across the country and these seasonal dishes are perfect to create memorable meal moments in your own home.

Blackburn’s Home Furnishings will be providing the appliances on center stage and will be offering a $750 appliance gift to one lucky attendee. All of those who purchase tickets will have an opportunity to win fabulous prizes from national and local sponsors.

For those looking for an upscale VIP experience, there will be an exclusive event sponsored by Shawna Stump State Farm on Wednesday evening, June 17, in the Hocking College culinary arts program’s demonstration kitchen.

This is a separate ticketed event that will include Elliott and Chef Alfonso Contrisciani from Hocking College’s McClenaghan School of Hospitality.
This event will feature a unique experience with our culinary experts. They will feature samples of several prepared dishes and a selection of beverages for attendees.

“From experienced home chefs to beginners learning their way around the kitchen, the Taste of Home Cooking School offers something for everyone — putting a fresh spin on old favorites and adding new and delicious recipes to your seasonal repertoire,” said Elliott.

Attendees will receive a gift bag including the Taste of Home Cooking School magazine. This magazine includes recipes featured during the program, along with many more, as well as coupons and other goodies from participating national food companies. Some attendees will go home with an exciting door prize or one of the tasty recipes created onstage that night.
