The operator of a hazardous-waste incinerator in eastern Ohio says the plant isn’t a health risk to its neighbors.

The statement comes after a report this past week said that the Environmental Protection Agency found that the incinerator released dangerous toxins into the air over the past four years.

The EPA said Heritage Thermal Services Incinerator in East Liverpool along the Ohio River emitted gases that contained high levels of toxic chemicals nearly 200 times from November 2010 to December 2014.

A statement released by the company over the weekend says brief failures with mechanical operations shouldn’t be confused with violations of air emissions standards.

Company officials also say they plan to sit down with the EPA in June and discuss the findings.
