COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Ohio’s health department wants fair goers to remember to wash their hands after seeing livestock exhibits this summer.

State health Director Richard Hodges says some illnesses that include flu viruses are commonly carried by livestock and can be transmitted to people.

Fair organizers around Ohio have increased the number of hand sanitizers and hand washing stations in recent years.

The health department also recommends that visitors leave strollers outside animal barns and that people with weak immune systems should think about avoiding livestock exhibits.
