FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Data from the College Board show more Kentucky students are taking advanced placement tests and scoring higher in the program that gives high school students a chance to earn college credit.

The state Department of Education says 31,658 students took the tests in 2015, which is up 35 percent from 2011. The number of tests with a qualifying score increased by 40 percent.

The agency says participation and qualifying test scores have risen for students in all ethnic groups.

The College Board also released results from the SAT college-entrance exam. The results show an increase of several points for average scores of Kentucky public high school students in 2015.

Interim Education Commissioner Kevin Brown in a news release attributed much of the success to a statewide math-science initiative called AdvanceKentucky.
