CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – A new helpline is assisting uninsured West Virginians seeking health coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

The helpline is a grant-funded project of Charleston-based First Choice Health Systems and will be staffed by health insurance navigators who can answer questions about signing up on the health insurance marketplace.

Consumers can reach the helpline at 1-844-WVCARES.

Open enrollment on the exchange began Sunday and extends through the end of January.

Jeremy Smith is an outreach coordinator and navigator for First Choice. He tells the Charleston Gazette Mail that the group has already been able to help a lot of people.
