The Ohio men’s basketball team returned to the court against the Indiana Tech Warriors, and the two teams had an exhibition on Saturday, in Athens. The Bobcats started the season off right and defeated the Warriors 73-57.

The ‘Cats were led by redshirt senior, Treg Setty, who had 17 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Junior Antonio Campbell, who had nine points and nine rebounds, got the Bobcats on the board first with a three-pointer. After a pair of free throws for the Warriors’ junior Lavonte Davis pulled them within two. But three straight layups by true freshman Gavin Block, redshirt sophomore Jaaron Simmons and Setty, made it a 20-12 lead for Ohio. At the half Ohio led 30-26.

The second half began a lot like the first half, with points being hard to come by. During the first four minutes there was three total points, all by the Bobcats. Setty had a layup and redshirt junior Kenny Kaminski hit a free throw. The game remained close for much of the second half. Ohio lead 39-35 with 12:43 left. But then over the next six minutes Ohio went on a 12-3 run to make the score 51-38. Ohio kept the lead over 10 for much of the remaining game and eventually pulled away to won by 16.

Ohio dominated inside the paint. They outscored Indiana Tech 42-6 and held a 15-7 edge in points off turnovers. One area of concern for Ohio was that their bench was outscored 40-17 by the Warriors bench.

Simmons had 11 points, three rebounds and seven assists. Kaminski had 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

Indiana Tech was led by Jalen Huff, who had 18 points, five rebounds and four assists.  Tanner Watkins chipped in 14 points.

Last year Indiana Tech finished eighth in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), which is in Division II. They had had a record of 11-19 overall and 8-14 in conference play. This year they are 2-0 and have won by a combined 42 points.

Ohio has its first game of the regular season on Saturday against Florida Gulf Coast at the Convocation Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
