After recording a school record 21 wins last season, the Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes basketball team will have a new coach for the first time in six years.

Nelsonville-York’s 2015-2016 campaign will be led by Doug Whiteman, who is taking over a team that finished one game behind Athens last season for the TVC-Ohio championship.

Before receiving the coaching position with the Lady Buckeyes, Whiteman was an assistant coach for the Logan Lady Chieftains who won the SEOAL title last season.

Dalton stepped down from her head coaching position after the Buckeyes’ record-breaking season and finished with an overall record 74 wins and 57 losses.

Dalton also led the 2013-2014 Buckeyes to the school’s first-ever district title.

The Lady Buckeyes lost only one senior in Madison Davis heading into this year. The loss, however, is significant as Davis was Nelsonville-York’s top rebounder and point scorer as she eclipsed 1,000 career points on Jan. 24, 2015, against Tree of Life Christian.

Luckily for Whiteman, he will have a few experienced players returning including point guard Jessie Addis and forward Kaitlyn Hurd.
