After an exciting undefeated regular season last year, the Trimble Tomcats started this season with a loss.

The Tomcats lost their preview game against Vinton County 29-20.

After a delayed start in the season due to the football team’s run at the Region 25 semi-final, the Tomcats are still in the preseason stages with just four days of full-team work put in.

“We use this as basically a practice,” Assistant Coach Chris Lyons. “It’s nice to go against another team, but as far as wins and losses, during the season the preview won’t be counted.”

With head coach Howie Caldwell at the helm, the team looks to bounce back quickly from the off-season with some more practice time. This will be Caldwell’s second season with the Tomcats.

Trimble lost four key starters from last year’s team due to graduation. Two of those starters gave Trimble a distinct height advantage on the court. However, with the players graduated, senior Bryce Guthrie will be left to make up the size difference.

Guthrie along with Justice Jenkins and Cody Jones return, looking to lead the team.

Guthrie rebounded well on both ends of the floor last year. The team plans to utilize his ability this season. Jenkins embodies the team’s style of play- fast and aggressive. He dives straight to the net and can add points almost anywhere from the field. Jones boosts the Tomcats with his pinpoint accuracy from the charity-stripe and behind the arc.

With more practice, another TVC- Hocking title could be in the paws of the Tomcats.
