COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The former chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio is helping to lead a lobbying campaign against a pair of deals now before the commission.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Todd Snitchler has led the charge a coalition of companies that opposes proposals to guarantee profits for eight years for power plants owned by two energy firms, American Electric Power and FirstEnergy.

Snitchler says the deals would undermine the state’s competitive market.

Snitchler was PUCO’s chairman from 2011 to 2013 and now works for a Columbus lobbying firm. His client in this case is the Alliance for Energy Choice.

Snitchler says he sees the moves as corporate bailouts and a retreat from competitive markets.
