COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Opponents are seeking more time from Ohio utility regulators to fight a deal announced this week between American Electric Power and the Sierra Club.

In a motion Wednesday, 10 groups including the Environmental Law & Policy Center, Ohio Consumers’ Counsel and several power-related entities asked the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to add three more weeks to its schedule.

The PUCO examiner set the first deadline for responders on Christmas Eve and the second for Dec. 28, the Monday after Christmas. They scheduled the hearing seven days later, after another holiday week.

AEP and the Sierra Club filed the agreement involving coal-fired power plants and other issues Tuesday. They say it would result in what are believed to be the largest investments in wind and solar power in Ohio.
