KENT, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say police in the northeast Ohio city of Kent fatally shot a man who confronted them with a machete.

A Kent police captain says someone called 911 around 3:45 a.m. Thursday to report that a man had refused to leave a home. Capt. Jayme Cole says the caller told police that the man had stated that he’d run when officers arrived and that they would have to shoot him.

Cole says the man was fatally shot after confronting police upon their arrival. Cole said he had no information about the man, how many officers fired their weapons or exactly where the shooting occurred.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are assisting Kent police in the shooting investigation.
