Meigs Lady Marauders: Dec. 20-27
< < Back toThe Lady Marauders continued to bounce back from their previous five game losing streak by taking another win this week. Meigs beat Wellston 48-30 at their home court Monday night.
Meigs started the game off well taking a 10-5 lead after the first quarter, and by the end of the first half, the Marauders were leading the game 26-16. What really made the difference for Meigs though was their huge third quarter jump doubling Wellston’s points and taking the lead 41-20 going into the final quarter.
Defense is something Meigs has been doing well at all season though. The Maroon and Gold pressured all night from baseline-to-baseline, which lead to force Wellston to commit 35 turnovers.
It was the team’s transition from defense to offense that finally seemed to click in Monday night’s game. Allie Hatfield scored double figures with 12 total points, followed right after by Madison Fields with 10 points. Danielle Morris also contributed to the win with six points along with Sarah Dowell with four.
What Coach Cleland feels this team’s main weapon is their team chemistry.
“I’ve done this for 25 plus years, and they’re probably one of the funnest, close-nit groups I’ve ever had,” Cleland added.
The Meigs Lady Marauders will attempt to make this a three game winning streak next week as they travel to Wahama Monday Dec. 28th.
