Two wins bumped the Trimble Tomcats up two spots in the Ohio AP Boys State Basketball Poll. The Tomcats, ranked No. 9 last week, leapt into the No. 7 spot in the second slate of rankings.

Trimble had its biggest win of the week over Waterford. The Wildcats also made an appearance on the poll, coming in the No. 10 position. Despite Waterford’s only game being its loss to Trimble, the Wildcats moved up two spots as well, previously ranked as No. 12 in Division IV.

Trimble forced overtime against Waterford with a three-pointer by Randy Hixon. Bryce Guthrie led the Tomcats with 21 points, including some clutch free throws in overtime. Trimble survived, with the close 60-57 win. The three-point victory was the closest for Trimble all season.

After a thrilling game, Trimble relaxed with a game against Nelsonville-York. The Buckeyes won their first three games of the season, but fell apart, losing the next nine. Trimble came away with the 67-41 victory, putting Nelsonville-York on a 10-game losing streak.

Trimble (11-1) has another laid-back week ahead with opponents Wahama and Belpre, before taking on a challenging South Gallia team.

Waterford will look to roll against Southern on Tuesday and Miller on Friday.
