Lady Wildcats Remain on Top in Week 2 Rankings
< < Back toFor the second week in a row, the Waterford Lady Wildcats (14-0, 11-0) rank No. 1 in Division IV for the AP Ohio High School Girls Basketball State Poll.
Last week was the first time in Waterford’s history that it received such an honor, previously only climbing up to No. 6. This week Waterford received the highest amount of first place votes with 14, with Arlington receiving six and Berlin Hiland stealing one.
Waterford stayed perfect with a 67-12 win at Wahama and an impressive 65-50 win over a challenging Alexander team. Alexander had played the No. 1 team in West Virginia before taking on the Wildcats and kept the game close until the fourth quarter.
In the game against Alexander, Dani Drayer and Megan Ball led the Lady Wildcats. The duo combined for 22 points in the first half alone, setting the pace for the entire game.
Leadership is a focal point for any team looking to make a run in the post season and it seems as if the Wildcats have that this year, only missing one starter from last year’s playoff squad.
Waterford will look to stay perfect against a struggling Miller team on Wednesday, Jan. 20, but will face a challenge from Parkersburg South (9-3) from West Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 23.
