Guthrie Steps Up Against Southern
< < Back toLack of production from Justice Jenkins forced Bryce Guthrie to step up in the Tomcats’ game against Southern. Guthrie’s performance mixed with late shots by Jenkins allowed Trimble to overcome the Tornadoes 71-40.
Jenkins struggled early on, not attempting a shot in the first half. His first shot didn’t come until around 5:30 was left on the clock in the third quarter. Jenkins did make his first two shots, both 3-pointers, and ended with 12 points.
Guthrie posted a double-double, scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Guthrie added five assists and four steals for an all-around solid night. Guthrie connected 6 for 9 from the field. Guthrie lacked from the free-throw line, making only 3 of 7 in the first half.
The Tornadoes struggled to get shots to fall, especially early in the game. Southern went down 35-19 at halftime and could only muster 21 more points in the second half. Two Southern players, Dylan Smith and Tylar Blevins, missed every shot from the field. Both players combined for one point, a Blevins free throw in the first quarter.
Trimble (14-3, 10-2) travels to Federal Hocking on Feb. 5. Southern (3-15, 3-10) also competes on the road on Feb. 5 against Belpre.
