N-Y Clinches Part of TVC Ohio Title
< < Back toThe Lady Buckeyes (14-6) ended their last TVC Ohio conference game against the River Valley Lady Raiders with a bang. For the first time in 10 years, N-Y girls cinched a TVC conference title*.
Both teams bounced back and forth in the first two quarters. Kaitlyn Hurd stood out, scoring 21 points; however she also committed quite a few turnovers. Seeing that Hurd is a senior, it was fitting since she still remembering the loss of last year’s heartbreaker for the TVC Ohio title.
Sam Taylor also shined, notching 16 points for the Lady Buckeyes despite some great defense from the Lady Raiders.
River Valley’s Leia Moore carried her team in Thursday night’s contest, scoring most of her 21 points in a series of 3-pointers.
The girls are looking forward to the rest of the season, and the ultimate goal, states. The Lady Buckeye’s coach, coach Doug Whiteman, described the win as “fitting after going through a lot of ups and downs this year.” And these Lady Buckeyes do not plan to change much going in to these up coming games. Whiteman feels that the team will continue to keep playing hard.
“We can beat anybody, but we have also proven that on any given day can lose to anyone, too,” Whiteman said.
The Lady Buckeyes next play Feb. 6 against Bishop Ready. River Valley concluded its regular season, and will continue on to the state playoffs against Wellston on Feb. 10.
