COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The number of new concealed-carry licenses rose last year in Ohio after experiencing a drop in 2014.

A state report released Tuesday shows roughly 72,000 new licenses were issued in 2015, up from about 58,000 in the previous year.

Concealed-carry licenses expire after five years. About 45,000 licenses were renewed last year.

Each county sheriff must report concealed handgun license statistics to the state on a quarterly basis. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine then compiles that data into an annual report.

The report also shows sheriffs revoked 530 licenses and denied about 1,100 in 2015 – both increases over the previous year. About 1,300 permits were suspended, compared to just over 1,400 in 2014.
