COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A group seeking to legalize medical marijuana in Ohio through a proposed constitutional amendment has failed to clear an initial hurdle.

Attorney General Mike DeWine on Friday rejected the petition from Ohioans for Medical Marijuana, saying he couldn’t certify the summary language as a fair, truthful statement of the proposal. He cites problems with wording about the number of cultivation facilities that could be licensed and determinations on whether certain marijuana users could be considered impaired.

Two other proposals aimed at legalizing medical marijuana await DeWine’s review within the next 10 days.

The future of marijuana in Ohio has faced uncertainty since last fall, when an effort to legalize cannabis for medical and recreational use in a single vote was overwhelmingly defeated. However, polls have suggested Ohioans support medical marijuana.
