COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Federal officials say about 95,000 Ohioans were among the new customers who signed up for coverage through the federal marketplace created by President Barack Obama’s health law.

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services said Tuesday the marketplaces nationwide signed up nearly 4.9 million new customers for 2016 coverage.

The third open enrollment period under the law ended Jan. 31. Nearly 244,000 Ohioans signed up for private insurance or renewed coverage.

Federal officials say that in Ohio, the average tax credit was $240 per month, and the average premium after tax credits was $164 per month. More than half of the state’s customers had the option of selecting a plan with a premium of $75 or less per month after tax credits.
