COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Supporters of an effort aimed at controlling the price Ohio pays for prescription drugs are collecting more signatures to try to get the idea before voters.

Backers, who include the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, began gathering signatures Sunday after the Ohio Supreme Court last week denied a move to keep them from doing so.

The proposal’s opponents, who include the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association, continue to challenge the circulation procedures used for some petitions collected earlier.

The proposal is aimed at keeping state agencies from paying more for a prescription drug than the negotiated price paid by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Backers have until July 6 to collect at least 91,677 signatures to appear on November ballots, though they are asking a federal court for another 30 days.
