If your city happens to be on the edge of the Ohio River, why wouldn’t you want to host an exciting weekend-long powerboat extravaganza? July 8 through July 10, the city of Marietta will host professional powerboat races as a part of their annual Marietta Riverfront Roar.

The event kicks off Friday, July 8 with a display of the powerboats on Front Street, Greene Street and Second Street. Soon after the Pepsi Pavilion and Marietta Riverfront Roar Beer Garden will open, allowing for attendees to celebrate the reoccurrence of the big weekend. Several bands, including The Bash (specializing in top 40 hits), The Larry Neely Band, The Faculty (classic rock ‘n’ roll) and Jacob Binegar will perform throughout the opening night of the festivities.

Also taking place on that first night is the beloved Roar’s Got Talent competition, which pits locals against each other to determine who in the area has talent enough to take home a $100 first prize, a $50 second prize or a $25 third prize.

Saturday, July 9 brings the annual Run for the Roar 5k, which has historically attracted runners and walkers from all over the country. The second day of the festivities will also serve as the main day for powerboat racing, which is slated to take place all day long. Live music, including sets from classic rock outfit The Remedy; Athens, Ohio’s own Five Foot Forward and many more will also serve as entertainment for attendees on Saturday. After sunset, event-goers can expect a colorful display of fireworks over the levee.

The Pioneer Corvette Show will take place on Sunday, July 10, as well as the final powerboat races of the weekend.
