Ohio’s Tony Campbell received Mid-American Conference East Player of the Week honors Monday after leading the Bobcats to a 2-0 record to start conference play. It is the third time Campbell has won the award this season.
The senior big man averaged 20 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in the Bobcats’ first two conference bouts. Each were team highs for the week.
Ohio started MAC play with a victory for the first time under coach Saul Phillips after knocking off Western Michigan, 89-58, at home on Jan. 3. Campbell recorded his sixth double-double of the year and went 7-of-12 from the field, also hitting six 3-pointers in the matchup.
Before fouling out against Kent State on Jan. 6, the defending MAC Player of the Year notched 18 points, five rebounds, an assist and a block in an 85-67 win. He played just 20 minutes in the game.
Campbell and company head to Buffalo on Tuesday sitting at 10-3 overall. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the University of Buffalo Alumni Arena.
