HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — The city of Huntington is holding a public meeting next week about proposed recommendations for a neighborhood redevelopment project.

An open house is set for Feb. 28 at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena to gather input on the final phases of the strategy for former industrial properties in the Highlawn neighborhood. The project’s implementation is set to start this spring.

The city of Huntington says in a news release the recommendations are the culmination of a yearlong planning process that has included funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for planning and assessing brownfields sites.

Brownfields properties are sites that can be redeveloped but have potential environmental issues. They include former industrial sites, abandoned buildings and vacant properties.
