DAYTON, Ohio (AP) – A wreath-laying ceremony is planned for Thursday at the Dayton National Cemetery to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the U.S. entry into World War I.

Veterans Affairs officials say the morning ceremony at the cemetery’s Soldiers’ Monument in southwest Ohio is open to the public.

The U.S. entry into war in 1917 helped swing what was also called the “Great War” and the First World War, which erupted in Europe in 1914.

Germany signed an armistice with the Allies on Nov. 11, 1918.
