MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – The WVU Cancer Institute says it’s expanding to meet the demand for treatment in West Virginia, planning to recruit 38 new specialists by 2020 and increase space for patient care.

Dr. Richard Goldberg, institute director, says cancer outcomes in Monongalia County, where the institute is located, are excellent but they’re not as good elsewhere in the state.

He says they want to make the experts in Morgantown available to more people.

According to the institute, clinic visits have increased by 27 percent in Morgantown compared to this time last year.

The institute plans to double its physicians, hiring 38 in more than a dozen sub-specialties, add more than 100 other clinical staff and add 44 exam rooms, seven infusion rooms and 40 physician offices.
