Wellston Pummels Full Adena Team< < Back to
The Wellston Golden Rockets brought their A-game Friday night and defeated the Adena Warriors 48-6.
When these teams met last season, the Golden Rockets won with a 28-6, but Adena missed some players due to injuries. Although Adena was prepared to enter the game without those injuries from last season, it did not pay off in the end.
Every football team needs a strong offense and defense, and Wellston had just that. They took advantage of Adena’s weaker offensive and defensive sides, gaining touchdown after touchdown, putting up a 34-0 score going into the second half.
Travis Jayjohn of Wellston had 60 yards on his fifth drive of the game, scoring a touchdown from the 1-yard line and Ryan Molihan added a rushing touchdown of 45 yards in the second quarter, while getting another rushing touchdown of 65 yards in the third. Jayjohn finished the game with 103 rushing yards, and Molihan had 128 rushing yards.
The Warriors top players, JD Blevins and Cam Nichols both played tonight. Blevins had 10 carries for 57 yards, while Nichols had 9 carries for 18 yards total. Nate Throckmorton scored Adena’s lone touchdown in the second half, with a 6-yard rush.
Wellston, overall, had a great game making their record 2-1 going into their next game against Portsmouth West next Friday.
Although Adena did not have the outcome they would have liked, they have a chance to come back and boost their record against Unioto.
